Art The Band

"ART is the feeling of your truest lover stroking your neck. ART is the tightness in your throat when your dog died. ART is the 6 hours of pure joy you spent laying in the grass on your first mushroom trip. ART is Everything You've Ever Listened To."

If there was ever a more apt Bandcamp description of an artist; i have yet to see it. Art The Band are one of those artists that distinguish the boundary between music as a resource to be consumed and music as an art form that deserves to be admired.

With their first album "Boost Unavailable" Art The Band exploded onto the worldwide jazz scene with stunning technical precision and a tendency to groove so hard it gives me neck pains.
From start to finish Art's debut treats us to a diverse palette of synchronous musicality that
pushes the boundaries of modern jazz in a way previously unexplored.

And with this year's 'Snacks', Art further explore that ideology by constructing a diverse and intricate showcase of modern jazz filled with exotic grooves and machine tightness while also entwining a genuine emotional atmosphere throughout it's entirety. Each song on Snacks has a distinctive hue that speaks to Art's diverse musical ability and leaves you wanting more after every listen.

Aerobics - Watch Out Man! (2013)

The internet is a beautiful thing; a platform for people from every corner of the planet and all walks of life to congregate and share their interests, ambitions and everything in between.
So many of my most beloved artists have found a start in the secluded depths of Bandcamp or similar repository of musical goodness. Artists which, before the internet existed never had a chance to have their grooves heard by the greater community.

These days we are blessed with the ability to find incredible, criminally under-rated artists from all over the world. And so i consider it my mission to find and share these amazing artists with you all, so it might give you as much joy as it has me.

This time i bring a New York project by the enigma known as Baptiste Adnet:
Baptiste blends his mathy guitar jams into a masterfully cultivated sonic atmosphere that can only adequately described with colloquial terms like "Next Level.'
At first it made me wonder how such a display of instrumental finesse could be showcased by just one man; but the more i listened to it i realised that works as concise and cohesive as Watch Out Man! could only come from the depths of one insanely talented individual's mind. I feel that this EP is a sixteen minute stream of consciousness straight from the brain of my man Baptiste.

Hope you enjoy! :)

Welcome to Mathnastics!

Welcome to Mathnastics! My name is Josh.

This is a place created for the purpose of sharing, exploring and nerding out over the wonderful, quirky and sometimes experimental genres of Math, Prog and Jazz.

Music holds a special place in my heart; It's the one thing that gives me that sense of pure, unadulterated joy when nothing else can. The sense of child-like wonder felt when you hear a 5/8 modulation over a 4/4 jazz standard is unbeatable. (Second only to the rush i feel when showing someone else these incredible tunes.)

Expect to find a vast selection of my personal favourite artists and tunes from around the world. I will be exploring in detail my personal journey of musical discovery and categorizing them for anyone who might at least partially share my preposterous taste for tunes.

Muchas Gracias for visiting,
Josh.
